It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.

I've heard this quote from at least two people - Charlie Munger and Rory Sutherland. The context is similar. People can be quite intelligent and rational. But if you try to tell them that something that they are paid to do, should not be done at all... they will refuse to understand how that could be true. For example, if a research analyst were told that an AI agent could do their job, they will fail to comprehend how that could be possible. This would be true even if they are technology analysts and are predicting that AI will replace all jobs. Just not theirs.
